[Blog] Don’t Mistake an Invite for Calling

blog Feb 24, 2023

By Todd Bishop

Not every invitation we get should be accepted. From the very outset of our leadership, we have to discover our calling. Our calling is the unique thing that God has placed us on planet Earth to do. Every single person on the planet has a calling, whether they admit it or not. Once you determine your calling, it is easier to say yes or no to other people’s requests.

As a leader, people will ask you all the time for favors. It’s just human nature—especially as your success begins to grow. Hear me loud and clear. Are you listening? You don’t have to say yes to everything. If you do, then you might miss the right thing you should be doing.

Be cautious in what you say yes to because that one yes could keep you from the thing you should actually be doing or attending. Don’t take the bait. Follow your calling.

I am going to share some brutal, honest truth with you. I hope you are ready. Most people accept every invitation because they are looking for validation. Okay, take a moment to process that. Being able to say, “I was invited to speak here,” or “I was invited to dinner with so and so,” can be exciting, but not every opportunity is part of your design.

Not every invitation is part of your calling. Most invites are not wrong, but make sure that God has really called you to whatever environment you find yourself in.
