Choosing Self-Confidence

dave martin Feb 23, 2022

Belief in yourself is a choice, an attitude you develop over time, not an accident or an anomaly of nature. Belief in yourself is a deep-seated awareness that, at least in one area, God has made you to be very unique. It is an understanding that you have what it takes—all the resources, all the talents, all the abilities—to accomplish that which compels you. It is self-confidence that overcomes all opposition and the doubts of naysayers and pessimists who might infiltrate your life. It is a strong positive attitude and belief in the person you are “in Christ.”

On the surface, this kind of self-confidence might seem like haughtiness or pride. Christians especially have been disciplined to avoid pride, and anything that smells like pride can quickly become offensive to those who want to have good moral character. But I propose that such self-confidence is not prideful. In fact, I would propose that self-confidence is godly.

A strong belief in oneself should stem from the way God sees us. In heaven, God already sees us as perfect. He already sees us as successful. So to embrace a genuine, God-given dream and to pursue it with passion and abandon is not an action that is based upon one’s own sinful estimation of self. Rather, I propose that it is an action based on God’s high esteem of those He loves.

So today, choose to believe in yourself. If you don’t, nobody else ever will. But if you do, you will be laying the groundwork for great achievement and personal success.
